Piesa hard- rock in stil clasic, cu o partitura consistenta de chitara electrica, Put Out The Fire este o mostra de umor negru in care Brian exceleaza (vezi Tie Your Mother Down!). Ce vrea sa ne transmita mesajul acestei piese? Sa fie oare un indemn la violenta? Nu putea totusi, un om care a scris cantece cu mesaj social (Is This The World We Created, Machines [Back To Humans], One Vision) si care s-a implicat in campania pentru copiii din Irak, sa sustina teza violentei.

O privire mai atenta asupra textului ne lamureste ca, de fapt, tonul in care a fost scris este unul ironic, sarcastic. Iata cateva motive absolut ridicole pentru a omori un om: "he wouldn't shake my hand, boy, he disappointed me", "I caught my lover in my neighbour's bed" (acesta nu este decat "nothing but a crime of passion, and I'm not to blame!"). Textul contine ironie dupa ironie: "she was my lover, it was a shame that she died" (insa el este cel care a ucis-o!), "let your sons and daughters sleep sound in their beds"- si o idee interesanta: "a gun never killed nobody, you can ask anyone", spune cu inocenta, "people get shot by people, people with guns"- dincolo de umor, nu s-ar putea spune ca nu are dreptate.

Deci, care este mesajul... "put out the fire" este un joc de cuvinte: a da drumul la foc, dar si a-l stinge. Si... "you need a gun like a hole in a head". Acum spuneti dumneavoastra: chiar aveti nevoie de asa ceva?
