Piesa a fost cantata in prima auditie la The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, in 1992, si a facut parte, initial, din cantecele primului album solo al lui Brian, Back To The Light, din acelasi an, intrand pe locul 5 al topului britanic. In 1996, dupa ce a fost inclus pe albumul Made In Heaven (1995), Too Much Love Will Kill You a castigat premiul Ivor Novello pentru "the best song musically and lirically". Vocea de pe versiunea de pe Made In Heaven este a lui Freddie (se pare ca Freddie, auzindu-l din intamplare pe Brian inregistrand aceasta piesa pentru albumul solo pe care il pregatea, s-a indragostit imediat de ea si l-a rugat pe Brian sa il lase sa o inregistreze si el. Astfel au rezultat 2 versiuni, una cu vocea lui Brian - pe albumul solo Back To The Light, si una cu vocea lui Freddie, pe Made In Heaven).

Melodia, strabatuta de o umbra de melancolie pe acordurile lirice ale chitarei lui Brian, se potriveste foarte bine cu mesajul piesei, care este o ilustratie a proverbului "ce-i prea mult strica" ("too much love will kill you, just as sure as none at all"- daca prea multa dragoste face rau, nici prea putina nu face bine). Pierderea echilibrului sufletesc si al sentimentelor duce, cu siguranta, la nefericire, atat pentru el ("I'm just a pieces of the man I used to be, too many bitter tears are raining down on me"), cat si pentru persoana iubita ("I used to bring you sunshine, but all I ever do is bring you down"), iar viata va deveni un esec ("every way I go, I'm bound to loose"). Si aceasta pierdere a echilibrului se datoreaza nehotararii in care zace adesea omul ("if you can't make up your mind") in fata momentelor cruciale, nehotarare care conduce, in final, la infrangerea in batalia cu viata ("I feel like no-one ever told the truth to me about growing up and what a struggle it would be").

Mesajul si melodia tulburatoare au impresionat publicul, atunci cand piesa a fost cantata prima data, in 1992.
